student loan education

what do I need to know before applying for an education student loan?
and can such loans be used for my housing (apartment rent) or only direct educational expenses. I am looking at Chase Education Loans. I am a 3rd yr undergrad. I plan to go to grad school directly after undergrad. Do payments begin after undergrad or graduate school? Tyvm.
The most important thing you need to know about student loans is they need to be paid back. No matter what. So once you take them out I would highly encourage you not to stop your educational program until you are finished. Otherwise you will have no degree and a big debt. I would recommend the Perkins or Subsidized federal Stafford loans. Stay away from private student loans, they have high interest and higher fees. I’m attaching a department of Ed publication. The back has some good info about loans.

The Student Loan Scam: The Most Oppressive Debt in U.S. History#and Ho
$5.24 DIVAn in-depth exploration and exposé of the predatory nature of the student loan industry/DIVDIV /DIVDIVAlan Collinge never imagined he would become a student loan justice activist. He planned to land a solid job after college, repay his student loan debt, and then simply forget the loans ever existed. Like millions of Americans, however, in spite of working hard, Collinge fell behind on payments and entered a labyrinthine student loan nightmare./DIVDIV /DIVDIVHigh school graduates can no longer put themselves through college for a few thousand dollars in loan debt. Today, the average undergraduate borrower leaves school with more than $20,000 in student loans, and for graduate students the average is a whopping $42,000. For the past twenty years, college tuition has increased at more than double the rate of inflation, with the cost largely shifting to student debt./DIVDIV /DIVDIVIThe Student Loan Scam/Iis an exposé of the predatory nature of the $85-billion student loan industry. In this in-depth exploration, Collinge argues that student loans have become the most profitable, uncompetitive, and oppressive type of debt in American history. This has occurred in large part due to federal legislation passed since the mid-1990s that removed standard consumer protections from student loans-and allowed for massive penalties and draconian wealth-extraction mechanisms to collect this inflated debt./DIVDIV /DIVDIVCollinge covers the history of student loans, the rise of Sallie Mae, and how universities have profited at the expense of students. The book includes candid and compelling stories from people across the country about how both nonprofit and for-profit student loan companies, aided by poor legislation, have shattered their lives-and livelihoods. With nearly 5 million defaulted loans, this crisis is growing to epic proportions./DIVDIV /DIVDIVIThe Student Loan Scam/Itakes an unflinchi@õÂ?\(öÿ¾Úð |

Outrage: How Illegal Immigration, the United Nations, Congressional Ripoffs, Student Loan Overcharges, Tobacco Companies, Trade Protection
$4.99 Half of all illegal immigrants came into this country legally - and we have no way of knowing they're still here! Congressmen are putting their wives on their campaign payrolls - so that campaign contributions are really personal bribes! The ACLU won't allow its own directors free speech. Liberals want to strip us of the tools to stop terrorism. The UN is a cover for massive corruption - and eighty countries, who pay 12 percent of the budget, are blocking reform. Drug companies pay off doctors to write scripts - whether we need them or not. Teachers unions block the firing of bad teachers - and battle against higher education standards! Katrina victims are being stiffed by their insurance companies! Never heard of these abuses? You won't in the mainstream media. That's why Dick Morris and Eileen McGann wrote Outrage. In Outrage, you'll get the facts - and learn what we can do about them. |
